Leonard Services Held Sunday
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Snider
chapel for Edgar Benjamin Leonard, 81, former West Liberty
resident who died Friday morning in Muscatine. Burial was in the
family lot in Oakridge cemetery, where Mrs. Leonard was buried 32
years ago.
Edgar Benjamin Leonard was born April 4, 1856 in Syracuse, N. Y,
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Leonard. His early life was spent
with his paternal grandparents who brought him to Indiana, and
later to Illinois. In 1889 he was married to Alice Mae Wigor of
Monmouth, Illinois, and they farmed in that community for several
years, moving to Muscatine Island in 1895. A few years later they
moved to this community and farmed, later coming to West Liberty
to make their home. Mr. Leonard worked for the government,
carrying mail from the depot to the postoffice, and in his later
years here worked for the city. He joined the Methodist church
about thirty years ago.
He made his home in the upper rooms of the building which now
houses the West Liberty Sheet Metal Works. He was well known in
this community and will be remembered by many friends. He is
survived by two sons and three daughters, nine grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Albert Meyers of
Kansas City; Mrs. John Dougherty (sic--Daugherty) of Seney; Mrs.
John Lancaster of LeMars; W. H. Leonard of Afton, and D. W.
Leonard of Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers of Kansas City and
Mr. Leonard of Afton were present for the funeral services. Pall
bearers were Frank Weber, W. W. Anderson, W. L. Mackey and C. A.
Peters.
