DEATH OF MISS EDITH LATHROP
Miss Edith Lathrop, teacher sixth grade, Washington school, died
on Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Lathrop, in Red Oak. Death was from stomach
trouble. She had been ill for some weeks and in December was
obliged to give up her school work. The funeral services will be
held at the home, 208 West Reed St., this (Friday) afternoon at 2
o'clock. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today friends will have
opportunity to view the remains. The casket will not be opened at
the funeral. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. W. M.
Martin, of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. J. A. Shaw, of
Ashland, Neb., a former pastor here.
Miss Lathrop was in her 28th year. She was born on a farm near
Red Oak, March 14, 1876. She was graduated from the Red Oak High
School in 1896 and attended the state normal school at Cedar
Falls. She school in the country successfully for several terms
and in the fall of 1900 became a teacher in the Red Oak schools.
She was faithful and successful in the work and was dearly loved
by her pupils. The city schools will be dismissed for the
afternoon in her memory. Miss Lathrop was a member of the Baptist
church and active in the work of the church.

officiating minister, by Rev. Samuel Gregg, of the Christian
church, Mr. Oliver E. Rupp, of Elliott, and Miss Florence Garey,
of Pilot Grove township, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Garey.
