Sixteen Nurses In County Reply to Questionnaire
Monona County is fortunate in numbering among its
residents at least 16 graduate nurses. Possibly there are others
who do not know that the National Nursing organizations are
attempting to get the married and maiden names of each graduate
nurse whether she is now practicing or not. The purpose of the
survey is to learn the actual nursing strength of the US for the
National Defense program.
Miss Josephine James, County public health nurse, has been asked
to make a survey of Monona County's graduate nurses. She asks
that names of nurses be sent to her office in the Court House in
Onawa as soon as possible so her report can go to Iowa's state
chairman, National Inventory of Nurses, for the National Defense
program.
The following graduate nurses have sent in information for the
National Defense program:
Mrs. Paul A. Hollister, Mrs. W.H. Buist, Mrs. Wesley Butler, Mrs.
Gale Polly and Mrs. Roy Stephenson of Mapleton.
Mrs. Ray Adkins, Mrs. J. F. Cheney, Mrs. O. G. Salveson, Mrs. F.
E. Sammin, Mrs. Paul Wolpert and Miss Rosanna Wacker of Onawa.
Mrs. N. C. Gray of Blencoe.
Mrs. E. A. Johnson of Moorhead.
Mrs. J. N. Hopkins and Mrs. William McFarland of Whiting.
Six More Young Men Will Leave Thursday for Army
Six more young men have been ordered to report for duty
in the US Army by the Monona county Draft Board. They are:
Alva Dwight Boyer of Whiting, a volunteer.
George Walter Orr of Onawa, a volunteer.
Harold Vernon Steward of Castana.
Wayne Arnold Blades of Whiting.
George W. Stanton of Onawa.
Lyle Nelson Harter of Moorhead.
The six, comprising Service Call No. 5, will leave Onawa for Fort
Des Moines the morning of Thursday, Feb. 20, 1941, Carl Nielsen,
chief clerk of the Draft board, announced.
This is the first call where the board had to select men to fill
the requirements, the first two of the six being volunteers and
the other four selectees.
There have been 36 volunteers to date and all are in the service.
The 16 men in Service Call No. 4, who went to Omaha, were all
accepted, so no replacements were needed. A group picture of the
16 is available at the Draft Board's office in the court House in
Onawa.
