George Porter will move his grocery store across the street in
his old quarters this week.
The northern part of the 2nd ward is making quite a good many
changes. Hans Nelson has moved into the Sweeny house. M. E.
Crittenden into the house vacated by McCoy, and J. I. Sweeny has
purchased the Mel White house and will take possession at once.
M. E. Evens will move into the P---- block.
Since writing last, death has entered our ward and taken Mrs.
John Weatherly. The funeral was held at the house last Friday and
attended by a good many friends.
Gus Erbe and family are nicely settled in their new home, the
Frank Lohr place.
Will Moody left for Elma Monday to begin work on a railroad.
Joe Sides is home from Grinnell, where he has been attending
college.
Miss Florence Rood has finished her fall term of school and
returned to St. Paul.
Ralph Whitley is home from Ames to cast his ballot and visit
parents and friend.
Miss Birdie Bronson's term of school in the Weinberger district
has expired. She will teach this winter in the Meora district.
The tax payers of Rock township may well be proud that not one of
their property owner's names appear among the delinquents, this
being the only township in the county that can boast of this
creditable showing.
Guy Kennedy and family were busy the first of the week shipping
their household goods to Mason City, which will be their future
home. They left today, followed by the good wishes of all.
D. B. Cotton and wife departed today for Beloit, Wis. to spend
the greater part of the winter season with their son, A. B.
Cotton, who resides at that place. They spent the winter of
"90" at the same place. Many friends wish them a happy
season of recreation and rest.
Miss Linna Evans leaves this week for Los Vigas, Mex., where she
will go for the benefit of her health, being afflicted with a
throat trouble. The physician orders a change of climate. She
will spend Sunday at Des Moines with her friend, Miss Clara
Tupper, and on the 15th inst. she will be joined at Kansas City
by the Misses Buckley, nieces of C. M. Hawley, of this place, who
have visited here. They go to Los Vigas for their health also.
Many friends wish Miss Linna and her companions a pleasant voyage
and a speedy return to beter health. Miss Linna resigns her
position in the public schools, which place will be filled by
Miss Mary Jones.
