GLENWOOD LODGE MEMORIAL DAY

Odd Fellows Give Inspirational Program in Commemoration of Deceased Brothers.

The memorial exercises of the Glenwood Lodge, I. O. O. F., occured on Sunday, June 4 as per announcement in last week’s paper. Members of the local lodge met at their hall at 10 a.m. to the number of near a hundred and in regalia, marched as a body to the Methodist Church, and occupied a place especially set aside for them. Special music and a special sermon suitable to the occasion were given. Rev. Stevenson proved his familiarity with the lessons from the Bible, which strongly appeals to every true Odd Fellow. At 2:30 p.m., a still larger number of the three-link brothers assembled at their hall and preceded by the I. O. O. F. band marched to the cemetery to perform the ceremony of decorating the graves of deceased brothers. No one who saw that marching column, but will recall how inspiring it was. Each brother bore a bouquet of flowers. At the cemetery, the exercises were brief. The reading of the proclamation was by W.C. Rathke instead of H.H. Cheyney as given in the program. All other exercises were given as previously announced. The singing and band music were both inspirational and suitable to the occasion. There are eighty-one members of the I. O. O. F. order buried in the Glenwood cemetery. Let this message go to the friends and relatives of each and all of them: “They were duly remembered.”

FARM HOME CATCHES FIRE MYSTERIOUSLY

Little Damage to Home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith Northeast of Hastings.

In some mysterious manner, the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith, living north of the McClain school house northeast of Hastings, caught fire about 3 a.m. Friday morning. A telephone alarm was sent out, but before anyone had arrived, the fire was put out, though, it cost Mr. Smith a badly burned hand. Little damage was done aside from burning two holes in the roof. The farm hand of Mr. Smith came near getting a suffocation. He was sleeping upstairs, and in some manner locked himself in. The farm hand had planned to quit work that morning. He will be held until the insurance adjuster comes to determine the cause of the fire.
