COMING WEDDING CORINNE RECORD

Prominent Glenwood Young Lady Has Announcement Party at Home Of Sister.

Mrs. John Johnson was hostess to a three-course 1 o’clock luncheon last Thursday, July 20, at which time the engagement of her sister, Miss Corinne B. Record, to Mr. Karl J. Knoepfler, was announced. The parlors were beautifully decorated in yellow and white. A special souvenir to each guest was a small candy dish on the edge of which sat two pure white doves. They held in their bills, a gold wedding ring, which gave away the secret. Miss Record is a well known Glenwood girl, and much admired by all who know her. She graduated from the Glenwood High School and Cedar Falls State Normal, and taught last year at Le Mars, Ia. Mr. Knoepfier is a law practitioner of Omaha, and his father is a German professor at Cedar Falls, where Miss Record became acquainted with the prospective groom. The wedding will take place sometime in September, after which the young people will make their home at Walthill, Nev. The guests were Mrs. June Fickel of Hastings; Misses Bernice and Ethel Kelley, Ruth Jones, Clarice Rist, Lena Godsey, Bessie Evernham, Edna Record, and Mrs. C.H. Record.

FUNERAL RITES OF MRS. MILLER

Many Pay Respects to this Well Known Woman-Rebekahs Hold Ceremony

The funeral of Mrs J.W. Miller, whose death came so suddenly Thursday morning, July 20, took place Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The high regard in which the deceased was held, was manifested by the large attendance, and the profusion of flowers that covered her casket. The services were conducted by Rev. D.S. Thompson of Griswold, and the services at the cemetery were in charge of the members of Woodland Rebekah Lodge, of which the deceased was a charter member. Six young men, who had at times been boarders in the Miller home, acted as pall bearers. Music was furnished by a quartet from the Christian Church choir. Those present at the funeral from a distance were T.H. Miller, brother of the bereaved husband, from Trinidad, Colo., Mrs. Mary Phillips, Mrs. James Hurst, and Mrs. John Hurst, sisters of the deceased, all from Ottumwa, Ia. The latter’s husband was also in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Swanson and Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Dodder of Omaha were also present. Sarah Jane McGee was born in Greenbrier County, Ind., April 25, 1847, and died at Glenwood, Iowa, July 20, 1916, aged 69 years, 2 months and 25 days. At the age of four years, she came with her parents to Wapello County, Ia., near Ottumwa. This journey was made by covered wagon. She grew to womanhood here and on October 23, 1861, she was united in marriage to James W. Miller. To this union were born ten children-four sons and six daughters. Two of the daughters, and a son passed away in infancy. Another daughter, Mrs. Thomas Pierce, of Hotchkiss, Colo., died about two months ago. She is survived by her husband and the following children; Mrs. J.F. Williams, Colo.; P.H. Miller, Cedar, Colo.; J. B. Miller, Austin, Colo.; Mrs. E.E. Sams, Harrison, Ark; J.C. Miller, Glenwood, Ia.; and Mrs. T.E. Richards, Paonia, Colo. Besides these, she is mourned by twenty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, five sisters and one brother. Practically all of Mrs. Miller’s life has been lived in Iowa, and thirty-six of those years were spent in Glenwood. Mrs. Miller was a charter member of Woodland Rebekah Lodge of Glenwood. She was not affiliated with a church, but her life and work were patterned after the teachings of Him, in whom, there was no guile. A true home woman, beloved by all who have come in contact with her splendid personality, cheerful always under the most trying situations and an inspiration to all with whom she mingled.
