Anniversary of Appomatox.
The old soldiers of Mills county will hold a grand old fashioned camp fire in the Armory hall in Glenwood on Saturday evening, April 9, it being the 27th anniversary of the victory of Appomatox. Every patriotic citizen is cordially invited to lend a helping hand to make this one of the grand events of the day. Every old soldier is especially invited to be present and bring his friends with him. Bring your baskets well filled. Coffee, Baked beans will be served with other good things. Good music, speaking, essays, select reading, with a fine rendition of old army songs will be in order after supper. Supper from 5 to 8 o’clock. Admission 25 cents. By order of committee: E. C. A Pleasant Surprise.
A pleasant surprise was given to Mr. Geo. H. Linville and his good wife at their residence in Center township, on Wednesday evening March 23d, it being the 74th birthday anniversary of Uncle George. About forty of his neighbors and friends met by previous arrangement and drove in upon them in a body.

After a hearty hand shaking the guests were invited in and were entertained by the host and hostess until supper was announced, the partners for which was chosen by the ladies as this is leap year. All sat down to the table which was loaded with such good things as only Aunt Sally can prepare, and ate until all were satisfied except Messrs. A. Mayberry and Al. Miller who never do know when they have eaten or talked enough.

After supper, the company were entertained with some excellent music by the Misses McCoy.

At about twelve o’clock those present bade the aged couple good bye, all hoping they might live to enjoy many such birthdays.
Among those that were present were noted the following: Mr. and Mrs. A. Mayberry, Mr. and Mrs. Al. Miller, Mr. J. B. Fallon, wife and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wright, Mr. J. J. McCoy and sisters, Mr. R. C. Estes and sister and Mrs. Williams.
