For Superintendent:
--Professor Brilges of Malvern, a person of thorough culture and many excellent qualities will be presented by his friends for nomination The professor has been connected with the public schools and the Baptist Centennial Academy of this place for a number of years.
--Captain Wing of Anderson Township is a candidate. We hear that Captain Wing is a man of more than ordinary ability, well educated, and that will be greatly in his favor, a soldier candidate. He enlisted in the 5th Iowa Calvary as a Private and for meritorious services was made a Captain in the army. Captain Wing would make a strong run if nominated.
--Rev. Israel Mershon is also in the field and once occupied the office to which he aspires. in Marion County. Like all other candidates, he is sanguine of success.
--The fourth candidate is a Mr. Sykes of Oak Township. Sykes has had a thorough normal training and is spoken of as an excellent man in every particular, and would no doubt fill the office with credit to himself and country. With so many candidates, we certainly ought to secure one that will make a strong poll and a successful one for the worthy office.

On Saturday evening, August 9th, the residence of L. E. Patterson of Ingraham Township with all its contents were consumed with fire between the hours of 5 and 7 o'clock p.m. Mr Patterson lost all his private papers, also the books and papers pretaining to the offices of Road Supervisor and Justice of the Peace. As to how the fire originated remains a mystery. There have been no fires in the house since morning, and the family were all away from home at the time the fire was discovered. Mr. Patterson and family have the sympathy of the entire community. Mr. Patterson desires to return his sincere thanks to his neighbors who voluntarily helped them to erect a temporary place of abode.
