A Flying Visit to Nebraska City
......On our arrival at the ferry landing, we experienced our
first drawback. The little mud-scow used as a ferry boat had been
out of order for several days, and at that time was uanble to
cross at the usual place, on account of the swiftness of the
current. A large number of teams had collected on this side, and
when we arrived, the owners of said teams were quarreling about
whose "turn came next"--some contending they had waited
over a week. After an hour's delay, however, we crossed over, and
walked up to the city -- a distance of a mile and and a half.
Nebraska City is quite a place -- to our notion, the most
flourishing city above St. Joseph.
