Mrs. Fred Baie died at her home a mile and a half east of
thisplace at about 5 o'clock Wednesday morning, August 30, the
result of a stroke of paralysis which she had at 6:30 the evening
before. Johannah Hartwig was born May 22, 1848, at Brunswick
[Braunschweig, Niedersachsen] Germany. She came to America in
1867. She was baptized in infancy and at the proper age was
confirmed in theLutheran Church. She married Frederick Baie at
State Center,June 20, 1867. There was born to this union eleven
children. Frank and Joseph of Schaller, Ia, Frederick and Mrs. A.
T. Copelan of Cando, N. D., Mrs. Emma A. Biesnecker of Collins,
Ia., Andrew, Laura and Ida who reside at home with their father.
Johanna, William and Dora preceded their mother in death in 1887
having died of diptheria, their ages being 14, 12 and 6 years.
Mrs. Copelan and Frederic Baie Jr. were unable to be present at
the funeral which was conducted at the home at 2 o'clock, Friday,
September 1, by Rev. W. H. Clement pastor of the M. E. Church,
and which was very largely attended. The floral offerings were
numerous and beautiful. Mrs. Baie was held by her neighbors.
Burial was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
