WORK OF GREAT HARVESTER
Record of the Week's Deaths Among Marion County People.

Mrs. Cathrine A. Rose.
Mrs. Cathrine Alba Rose, a native of Marion county, and daughter of William and Julia Ann Staly, died at her home in Oakdale, Nebraska, Friday February 24, 1911, aged 51 years, 5 months, 18 days. Cathrine Alba Staly was born in Polk township Sept. 26, 1859 and removed to Nebraska about 30 years ago. Five years later, in 1886, she was united in marriage with Henry Rose. He died in 1898 or 1899, leaving the widow and four small children, the eldest not over 11 or 12 years of age. One of these, William, now resides at Davenport, Iowa. Anna, the eldest daughter, is now Mrs. Weaver Cowan, of Oakdale; Henry is employed with a lumber company at Loretta, Nebraska and Walter, the youngest son was still with his mother at the time of her death. Besides the children deceased leaves two sisters and four brothers. The sisters are: Mary, wife of Mell W. Fry, north of Knoxville; Mrs. C.F. Reno, of Oakdale, Neb. The brothers are: J.D. Staly, of Oklahoma City and Willaim J.O. and Amos Staly, all of Des Moines. Mrs. Rose was a valued member of the M.E. church at Oakdale and will be much missed by her relatives and friend in that place as well as those of Marion county, Des Moines and elsewhere. The funeral services were held at Oakdale Sunday February 26, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Ellis, interment in Oakdale cemetery.

[transcribers notes: Richard Rose (see Marion co. newspapers April 1897) was my ggg granduncle, brother to my ggg grandmother, Mary Rose White of Henry Co, IA. I believe Cathrine Alba Staly Rose's husband Henry is of another branch of Roses and unrelated.] [transcribed by C.J.L., June 2006]
