Cedar Bridal Couple Burned in Auto Crash
CAR OVERTURNED IN DITCH; AND BURST INTO FLAMES
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moore, both 19, of Cedar, who were married
only last Thursday, were severely burned about 7:30 p.m. Monday,
when the car driven by Mr. Moore, overturned and burst into
flames. Mrs. Moore, who before her marriage was Miss Rhoda
Walker, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Dow Walker, of near Cedar, is in a serious condition in
Mercy hospital at Oskaloosa, suffering from severe burns about
the face, back, arms and legs. Harold is also confined to the
hospital with painful burns, but his condition is not considered
serious.
The last report from doctors, gave Mrs. Moore a good chance of
recovery. Mr. Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Moore, of near
Cedar, and his bride were fleeing from a party of chrivari
friends, when the car hit a dip in the road, swerved into a ditch
and overturned, bursting immediately into flames. Dick Phillips,
one of the followers, helped extricate the couple from the car.
They were given first aid treatment at an adjoining farm home and
then taken to the hospital in the Fremont ambulance.
Mr. and Mrs. Moore were prominent members of the boys and
girls basketball teams respectively at Cedar, before their
graduation last spring.
