W.H. SHAW DEAD - Passed Away at Methodist
Hospital, Des Moines.
William H. Shaw of Oskaloosa, aged 85 years, 8 months and 22
days, died at the Methodist Hospital at Des Moines at 11:00
o'clock Wednesday evening, June 23, 1926, the result of a fall
and fracture of a hip at the home of a niece in Des Moines last
Wednesday, June 16. He was taken to the hospital and appeared to
be doing as well as the nature of the injury would permit until
about noon yesterday when he suddenly lapsed into unconsciousness
and could not be aroused. He passed away without recognizing
friends or relatives. His condition had not been considered
critical. Funeral will be held at the Wilcox-Garland Chapel at
2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, June 25, with interment in Forest
Cemetery. Mr. Shaw was one of the few surviving members of Phil
Kearney Post G.A.R. and a veteran who saw hard service in the
civil war. His comrades will attend in a body and have a part in
the funeral services. Deceased was a pioneer resident of
Oskaloosa, and actively engaged in business here until a few
years ago. One son, Ernest H. Shaw of the H.L. Spencer branch of
the Western Grocer Company survives. He was a life long member of
the Methodist Church and for many years served the congregation
as treasurer.
