Obituary
Jessie Lois Webber, the subject of this sketch, was born near
Fremont, Iowa, Oct. 17, 1888, where she lived and grew from
childhood to girlhood. She had been a faithful and attentive
scholar in the public school of Fremont until she was compelled
to retire from school on account of failing health. She was also
a faithful attendant at Sunday school as much as circumstances
would permit, always ready to perform her part faithfully and
efficiently in all the various exercises of the Sunday school.
She died at her home near Fremont, Nov. 20, 1903 at 1:20 a.m. at
the age of 15 years, 1 month and 3 days. She was a kind and
gentle spirit and loving in her disposition and was beloved by
all who knew her, and will be much missed in the family circle,
the Sunday school and by her schoolmates. She leaves a mother,
six sisters and two little brothers, besides many other relatives
and friends, to mourn their loss. The funeral services were held
in the Christian church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted
by Elder Ira Barr. The vast crowd attending the funeral services
may be taken as a fair index to the love and respect in which
Jessie was held in the community. The beautiful flowers that were
placed upon her casket were tokens of the love and esteem of her
teachers and schoolmates. After the funeral services her remains
were followed by a large company of mourners and sympathizing
friends to the Fremont cemetery where they were laid to rest.
