Judge Edmund NICHOLS presided at the December term of Madison county district court in Winterset, with J. A. SHUTT as foreman of the grand jury.

The Rev. Cal OGBURN, of Los Angeles, Calif., has been visiting his father at Peru.

Mrs. Richard S. SILVERTHORN died on Sunday, December 11th. She had lived in Madison county since 1870. John CRAVEN's general store at Webster was destroyed by fire Saturday night last, together with all of its contents.

Matt KELLEY, of Crawford township died December 6th, eighteen months after the death of his wife. He leaves 11 children, the oldest of whom is 19 years of age.

Col. John DUFF, Winterset auctioneer, moved to Van Meter this week.
