Winterset was featured in an article headlined "A City of Fine Homes." The reporter extolled the many "elegant residences," in town, "withpaved streets on several principal thoroughfares, with elegantly shaded avenues oflawns and groves that invite comfort and repose."
The featured homes, valued at $5,000 to $6,000, included the homes of, M.R. TIDRICK'S, E.E. MCCALL'S, J.H. WINTRODE'S AND C.(Challen) DANFORTH'S.

The reunion of the 39th Iowa was planned to be held in Osceola (Iowa) on the anniversaryof the battle of Allatoona Pass. The killed and wounded from Madison County on thatday amounted to about 30.
