Death in a terrible form came last Sunday to Patrick NOLAN, an old resident of Union township, who, through mistake swallowed some carbolic acid with fatal results. It seems that Mr. NOLAN awoke at about 5 o'clock on New Year's morning, and without getting out of bed, reached for a bottle, intending to take a drink of liquor. The bottle which he took contained carbolic acid and he drank some of it before discovering the mistake and lived only about three hours. Dr. DAVISSON was sent for as soon as possible, but could not arrive before his death. Mr. NOLAN was a farmer and had lived in section 2, Union township for many years.
Deputy Marshal GUIBERSON and Constable STAFFORD raided a party of alleged crap shooters last Wednesday night, at John DORRELL's, on block west of the square. DORRELL was brought before Justice GUMP, and pleaded not guilty. His trial was set for next Monday.
Truro: A ten pound boy rang in the year 1893 at the home of Henry BONNEY.
Jim CLARK occupies the jug for three days for disturbing the peace. He modestly admits that he cleaned out ARMBREST's store.
The DUNN family of Lincoln township seems not to be overburdened with brotherly love. E. DUNN and his half-brothers, W. T and Lewis engaged in a family scrap in the barn yard last week, which has kept Justice GUMP's court busy most of the time since. E. DUNN was first convicted of assault and battery upon W. T., and fined $ 10.00 and costs. Next W. T. was arrested on the charge of threatening to kill E., and place under bonds to keep the peace. Lastly, E. DUNN was tried on the charge of assaulting Lewis. His trial was before a jury and lasted the greater part of two days, ending in acquittal.
