Grand River Township reported the organization of a vigilance committee with J. H. MARLEY, president; J. W. PINCKNEY, vice president, P. H. SEAY; secretary, A. BONHAM; treasurer, J. H. MACK; with J. D. LOVE, J. W. PINCKNEY, A. J. HASTY and Sam SPENCER, directors.

An emigrant train of ten wagons, some horse drawn and some by oxen passed through Winterset – a Bohemian colony, emigrating from Linn county, near Cedar Rapids, to Republic county, Kansas.

Marriage: James KIRKLAND and Sarah RUDDICK were married on May 8th, with Israel COMPTON, J.P. presiding.

Judge MOTT, V. WAINRIGHT, T. S. RUBY and John LEONARD were attending court at Fontanelle, while Col. CUMMINGS, J. J. HUTCHINSON and B. F. MURRAY were doing federal jury duty in Des Moines.

Marriage: Zack Taylor HILLMAN and Ruhana B. CUMMINGS were married on May 7th, with H. C. WRIGHT, J. P. presiding.

N. W. MUNGER was one of 39 bidders for the contract of furnishing stone for the new state house.
