June 22, 1917
Lyon county's new $130,000 court house was dedicated this
afternoon. Due to bad roads, the crowd from the country and the
smaller towns was not large, but the townspeople turned out in
good numbers. Chief Justice Frank R. Gaynor of the Supreme Court
of Iowa made the address of the day. Originally it was planned to
make dedication day a great county holiday, with a "free
feed" as a central feature, but it was decided such a
demonstration would be out of harmony with the times, with the
country at war.
The old court house has been moved about four blocks away and is
being transformed into an up-to-date hotel by Bradley &
Olsen, who hope to have it ready for the county fair in August.
They paid $1,000 for the building at auction.
