The Larchwood Leader
Larchwood, Lyon County
July 4, 1895
O.D. Shannon will leave a number of his accounts in the bank
where the parties whom they are against can call settle by note.
Farm help is scarce. By the Sioux Falls papers, we see they are
offering $2.00 per day and we presume they will be about the same
here. Hands can hardly be had at all.
A game of ball was played on the Larchwood grounds Saturday
between the Granite and home teams. There was nothing phenomenal
about the game except the hard hitting by the home team and the
number of scores made by both sides. Andy Cooper knocked a
skyscraper. It went over the Larchwood House without touching and
idled at the depot. When they quit figuring up the score we
understood it stood 39 to 59 in favor of Larchwood. It may be
said, however, that Larchwood could have done much better than
she did. And could easily have brought the score down to 8 or 10
for Granite and got one hundred for themselves.
