Mrs. Martin Anderson
Many friends in Chariton and Lucas county will learn with sorrow
of the death of Mrs. Sarah A. Anderson, wife of Martin Anderson,
which occured at the family home in Chariton on Saturday evening
December 5th at the age of 69 years 1 month and 26 days, after
suffering intensely for many weeks with cancer of the stomach and
heart trouble. Largely attended funeral services, conductged by
her pastor, Rev. E. E, (IIgenFritz or HgenFritz), were held at
the M. E. church Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, after which
the remains werelaid to rest in the Chariton cemetery. Sarah Ann
May was born near Scipio, Indiana, Oct. 9, 1845. When a child she
came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm northeast of
Melrose, where she grew to young womanhood. She was married at
the home of her parents on March 11, 1866, to Martin Anderson. To
this union six children were born, two of whom died in infancy,
and the youngest son, Ezra, died on his twentieth birthday, Oct.
9, 1894. Her home since 1891 has been in Chariton. She is
survived by her husband and three children, Mrs. Lulu Elliott of
Kirksville Mo., Charles Anderson of St. Joe Mo., and Enos A.
Anderson of Chariton. Four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. James
Jones, Mrs. D. P. Grimes, Mrs. H. H. Borton, Miss Maggie May, W.
E. May, of Chariton, Alva May of Santa Cruz, Calif., are also
living. Mrs. Anderson was reared in a Christian home, her father
being a class leader in the United Brethren church. When but a
child she was converted and united with the church, and upon
removing to Chariton she united with the Methodist church and
remained a faithful and devoted member of that organization until
death claimed her. She was
devoted to her family, yet was very ready to lend a helping hand
to those in need or trouble. She was quiet and unassuming, but
ever kind and pleasant, and her friends were numbered by her
(looks like)
aquaintances. Her demise will be greatly mourned and the
sorrowing husband and children and other relatives will have the
deep sympathy of the entire community.
