The first word received directly from S/Sgt. David C. Blodgett
since he was reported a prisoner of war of Germany came to his
parents and friends this week. The communications were dated May
8 and 10, in which he said he was well and receiving good
treatment.
Pfc. Robert C. Wright arrived in Cedar Rapids last Saturday
morning to spend a 17-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Wright, 235 Johnson avenue, NW. Pvt. Wright, serving with
air-borne field artillery, is stationed at Camp Mackall, N.C.
A V-mail special letter titled, Now I know what they mean
Labor day, Sept. 4 and showing a Seabee very hot and
busy with a heavy pick, was received by The TRIBUNE Wednesday
from Huron T. Adams, WT 2/c.
I am in Hawaii and Ive seen Honolulu and Waikiki,
writes Cookie. If I might leave a thought with
you on Labor Day, it would beClean the enemy out of our
unions as we are cleaning them out of the Pacific. Give the boys
of the Local No. 55 my best regards. Cookie was
secretary of School Maintenance Employees union No. 55 and
custodian of Garfield school, when he enlisted in the Seabees.
Second Lt. and Mrs. Richard F. Marks arrived in Cedar Rapids
Thursday morning for a visit in the homes of their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Neil Marks, 2715 Waveland drive NW, and Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Detlefsen, 1425 Seventh avenue SW. Lt Marks, in service with
the U.S. Army Air Force, is on furlough from his station at
Mather Field, Calif.
