Red Cross Worker Dies of Disease in France
Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Jan 8 - Cornell college has added another gold
cross to its service flag representing the sacrifice in the death
of Elsie May Hatch of Edgewood, Iowa, who died of bronchial
pneumonia in Paris, on December 20, where she has been engaged in
Red Cross work for several months. Miss Hatch received her
secondary education at the Edgewood high school, Edgewood, Iowa,
and Lenox college academy, and spent the first two years of her
college course at Lenox college, transferring at the end of her
sophomore year to Cornell college, Mount Vernon, Iowa, where she
spent her junior and senior years, graduating in 1910. A
telephone message from Edgewood to President Flint announced the
sad news last Saturday and the family have requested President
Flint to join with them in an effort to get permission to bring
the body back to America for interment.

Early Pioneer of Jones County Dies at Anamosa
Anamosa, Ia., Jan 8 - Mrs. Louise Chadwick, widow of David
Chadwick, died at her home in Anamosa, Sunday. Mrs. Chadwick had
been in failing health for some months. About a year ago she fell
and suffered a broken hip and when recovered it was broken a
second time and she never regained her health. Mrs. Chadwick was
one of the oldest settlers in Anamosa having resided here since
before the war of the rebellion, in which conflict Mr. Chadwick
enlisted. He died about ten months ago. Mrs. Chadwick is survived
by three sons, Herbert and Joseph who reside in Anamosa; Nelson,
who lived in Florida, and one daughter, Nettie at home. The
funeral services were held in the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Templeman Dies in Wyoming
Anamosa, Ia - Word has been received of the sudden death of
influenza of Mrs. James Templeman at her home in Wyoming. Mrs.
Templeman was the only daughter of William Peet and has lived in
Jones county most of her life, going to Wyoming about two years
ago where Mr. Templeman engaged in extensive wheat farming. She
is survived by her husband, her mother, who was Miss Eliza Saum,
one brother, James, who is with the mother in California, and a
brother, Truman, who lives in Montana.
