Personal Mention
-Cato Sells was a guest in this city last night.
-Mrs. E.J. Keith left this morning for Ida county.
-Mr. H.H. Rood of Mt. Vernon is in the city today.
-Martin Moore went to Independence this morning.
-Lyon Glenson goes to Cheyenne county, Nebraska tonight.
-Mrs. Len Spafford, of Strawberry Point, is in the city today
with friends.
-Rev. T.D. Adams was in the city this morning, going to the
second camp meeting at Elgin.
-J.E. Kooser left last night for Sioux City to engage in the
confectionery business in the employ of Henry Moeller.
Marion Locals
-Mrs. R.B. Campbell and children left last night for Milwaukee
for a few days.
-W.F. Fitzgerrald and son left for Center Point this morning.
-The old stone mill that has been a land mark for a great many
years is a thing of the past, the same having been torn down by
order of the city council.
-Coronor Laurance was in town yesterday holding an inquest over
the remains of August Peterson who was burned to death last
Monday. Quite a number of witnesses were examined yesterday
afternoon but nothing was brought to light that could explain how
he came to his death. The case was continued until this afternoon
and the jury decided that the death was a mystery and that
Peterson met his death at a time and in a manner unknown to the
jury.
-Mrs. A.B. McKean has gone to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
-Jas Magee of O'Brien county is the guest of his brother Jno
Magee for a few days. He is an extensive farmer in O'Brien
county.

Eighth Cavalry in Reunion at Marshalltown - the
"Iowa Boy Regiment"
Marshalltown, Aug 26- The reunion of the eighth cavalry, the Iowa
"boy" regiment, was held here today. One hundred and
fifty veterans are present. At the business session this morning
Capt. G.W. Burns, of Clarinda, was elected president for the
ensuing year. Clarinda was selected as the place for holding the
next meeting, the first week in September, 1887. The ladies
relief corps banqueted the veterans this afternoon. An
enthusiastic campfire was held last night, short speeches were
made by wenty of the boys.

The following officers of the Agassiz Association of the state
were elected yesterday:
President, Charles R. Keyes, of chapter 514, Des Moines
First vice-president, Miss Edith Ross, of chapter 158, Davenport
Second vice-president, Llynde Jones, of chapter 887, Grinnell
Secretary, Miss Helen L. Clark, of chapter 64, Cedar Rapids
Treasurer, B.F. Goan, of chapter 700, Mt. Pleasant
Ottumwa, Aug 25 - W.D. Horton, aged 24 years, of Agency, was run
over and killed at one o'clock this morning by a C.B. & Q.
pusher engine in the suburbs of Ottumwa. A whisky bottle was in
his pocket.
