OBITUARY
Capt. Joseph Vanmeter of Company H, 18th Iowa Regiment, died at Springfield, Missouri, the 14th day of January, 1863, of a wound received at the late Springfield battle. He was a member of the gallant Iowa First, at the time of the hard fought battle at Wilson’s Creek. But he has now fought his last battle and slumbers in a patriot’s grave at the National Cemetery, Springfield. He was formerly a student of Western College.

OBITUARY
Mrs. Julia Henry, wife of Rev. W. E. Henry, died in this place on the morning of January 2rd, 1863. Sister Henry was a devoted Christian, and an influential member in society; wherever she lived her influence was felt to be of great moral worth to the church. She left a husband, three sons, and five daughters to mourn their loss. But their loss is her gain. She enjoyed, during her illness, great peace, and a glorious prospect of home in heaven.
