MRS. GILCHRIST DIED WEDNESDAY IN SOUTH DAKOTA
Grew to Womanhood and Was Married at Irvington In 1884 -
Mrs. Almira Green, Algona, Daughter
Mrs. Margaret Gilchrist, formerly of Irvington, passed away at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maud Kuhns, at Gettysburg, S. D.,
last Wednesday following an illness of several weeks. The remains
were buried in the Central City, Iowa, cemetery beside those of
her husband, Saturday.
Married at Irvington.
Mrs. Gilchrist was born Margaret Nellis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
C. K. Nellis, in Dekalb, Ill., Oct. 1, 1865. While a child she
came to Kossuth county with her parents and they lived in the
Irvington neighborhood for many years. On Feb. 29, 1884, she
married A. W. Gilchrist at Irvington. Later they moved to Tracy,
Minn., where they lived for many years until he passed away
twenty years ago. She had made her home with the Gettysburg
daughter the past six years.
Surviving are the two daughters, Mrs. Almira Green, Algona; Mrs.
Maud Kuhns, Gettysburg, and a son, Lee Gilchrist, Wauseca, Minn.
Two brothers, Russell Nellis of West Bend and Claude Nellis of
Colorado Springs, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Watson, of
Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. John Peterson, of Canada, also survive.
Six Kossuth Girls Leave for WAVE Training Tuesday
The 6:30 bus Tuesday morning carried six Kossuth girls
who are on their way to take training for the WAVES. They
reported at Camp Dodge Tuesday and from there will proceed to
Chicago and then on to Hunters College, New York, for the regular
course in training. The girls were:
Maxine Brundage, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Brundage, Algona.
Mary Virginia Knudsen, daughter of Jens Knudsen, Algona.
Marjorie Drayton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Drayton, Algona.
Winifred Plumb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Plumb, Algona.
Lucille Kuecker, daughter of Mrs. Ida Kuecker, Lone Rock.
Hazel Johnson, Swea City.
Floyd Bode Member of Holstein Group
Floyd Theodore Bode, Algona, is one of 25 Iowa Holstein
breeders recently admitted to member in The Holstein-Friesian
Association of America by unanimous vote of the board of
directors. Applications from 601 were approved. This national
association is the largest cattle recording organization in the
world.
Lt. Donald C. Arns and Lt. Lighter In German Prison Camp
First word from Lt. Donald C. Arns now a prisoner in
Germany was received here Friday, Jan. 7, by his wife, residing
in Algona. His card was dated Nov. 7, 1943. It will be remembered
that Lt Arns plane was shot down over Muster, Germany, on
Oct. 10, 1943. He had received a leg injury, presumably while
parachuting from the stricken plane, and two exploding cannon
shells had stunned him. He stated that his wounds were healing
nicely and that he could now walk on the injured limb. Lt. Arns
is interned in Camp Stalag Luft III, near Dresden, as is also Lt.
Duane Lighter, Algona boy. Lt. Arns writes that the weather was
quite cold but he seemed in good spirits and hoped to be back
with his family and friends soon.
Mrs. Donald C. Arns is the daughter of Del Marlow, Lone Rock. The
lieutenant is a Cresco, Iowa, boy, and joined the air corps in
July, 1942. He is a pilot and received his training at Santa Ana,
Calif., prior to going overseas. He has visited here often and
has many friends in Kossuth.

SHE GIVES FLIERS THE GO AHEAD
Having enlisted in the Womens Army Corps after her
husband Lieutenant Roy R. Moser, was killed in a bombing raid
over Germany, Private Wanda L. Moser now is supplying other
pilots with weather data in the weather office of Randolph Field,
Texas. She is shown at the cockpit of a training fighter plane.

FINAL RITES FOR KATHRYN BODE
Funeral services with requiem high mass by Rev. J.M.
Mallinger were held at St. Cecelias church here Thursday
morning at 10 oclock for Kathryn Bode, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Bode, of Union township. Miss Bode passed away Monday
at a local hospital. Pallbearers were Ward, Winkle, Alphonse
Eisbecker, Leroy Nauman, Mike Stoffel, Floyd Bode and Kenneth
Sarchet. Interment was in Calvary cemetery. Evelyn Bode, soloist,
and the St. Cecelias Girls Choir, with Miss Josie
McEvoy at the organ, sang at the services. The sophomore and 6th
grade classes of St. Cecelias Academy attended in a body.
MANY AT FUNERAL.
Miss Bode is survived by her parents, two sisters, Mrs. A.W.
Lindsley of Fort Dodge and Joan, at home; three brothers, Robert
and Donald at home and Bernard J., E.M. 2-c, now at sea, and who
could not be contacted; and a grandmother, Mrs. Caroline Bode,
Atlanta, Ill., who was unable to attend the services because of
advanced age. Present at the final rites were Peter Bode, McLean,
Ill.; Charles and Erwin Bode, Lincoln, Ill.; John Lamuth, Irene
Lamuth and Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Ryno and son Richard, of Fort Dodge;
Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Puth and children, of Waterloo; Mrs. J. G.
Resch and son Leo, of Jackson, Minn.; Herman Bode of Mason City;
and Mr. and Mrs. James Coady, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kramer, Mr. and
Mrs. Matt Kramer, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schlitz, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Rahe, and P.M. Schultz, all of Bancroft.
Irvington Is Meet at Fred Geigel Home
Irvington: The Irvington Is met at the Mrs. Fred
Geigel home January 17. Donna Chamberlain, president, had charge
of the meeting. A solo was given by Donna Dee Sharp. Mrs. Geigel
was at the piano as the girls sang the songs. Each member brought
something for a basket that the club is giving Dr. Sherman Meyer
for the health examination. Several members were present as were
two leaders and seven guests. The next regular meeting will be
with Donna Chamberlain on February 14. The members are to bring
basic dress and a valentine. Mrs. Beigel served a nice lunch for
the meeting.
L. LAURITSON, 77, DIED AT HOME OF DAUGHTER HERE
- Survived By Four Sons and Two Daughters; Had Lived In Algona
Since the Late Eighties.
Laurits Lauritson died Thursday noon at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Carrie St. John, with whom he had made his home for the past
six years. He had been in poor health since last June but was
bedfast for only a week.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two oclock
at the McCullough chapel with the Rev. Nelson Price in charge.
Burial was made in East Lawn cemetery. The Pallbearers were
Chester Schoby, Walter Dale, James Murray, Wm. Durrant, Roy Hagg
and Mare Moore.
Laurits Lauritson was born in Denmark Oct. 15, 1866, and was 77
years old at the time of his death. He emigrated to the United
States when he was 21 years old and came directly to Iowa. He
lived for a short time in the vicinity of Cylinder and the
remainder of his life was spent in and near Algona.
SIX CHILDREN SURVIVE.
He was married May 7, 1896, to Miss Anna Brown of Algona. They
began housekeeping on a farm in Lotts Creek township where they
lived until 1918 when they moved to town. Mrs. Lauritson died
Sept. 29, 1934. Mr. and Mrs. Lauritson were the parents of six
children all of whom are living. They are Harry and Joe of
Camarillo, Calif., Welford of Dows, Earl of Bradgate, Mrs. Jessie
Elmore and Mrs. Carrie St. John, both of Algona. There are 22
grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
