Colony Notes by P.P. Man
We learn from the Anamosa papers that our genial young hospital
steward, Dr. H.H. Kratochvil is soon to leave for the purpost of
pursuing his studies in Tennessee, preparatory to joining the
Army. Since he was mustered out of the Spanish-American war, Dr.
Kratochvil has been ambitious to get a commission under Uncle
Sam. His resigning, therefore, presumably is the first step
toward his ambition.
Our Colony lost a good man Wednesday when Turnkey Harper resigned
to enter the county clerk's office as deputy. Mr. Harper came
here two years ago. His advance to the responsible position of
turnkey at the main entrance came six months ago and shows the
confidence which the management had in him. He is succeeded at
the door by Officer Hubbard, who was formerly sergeant at the
Quarry. Officer Haardt is now acting sergeant.
Williams, 4720, was released this morning on parole. Williams
served four years of a ten-year sentence. For the past two weeks
he had been in the hospital.
