Hansen & Fay is the name of a new grocery firm that will open
for business in the new Chaplin building, Anamosa, soon. Both
members of the firm are recent ex-guards, and being young men
ought to make a success of their business. The Colony trade alone
would keep a firm from sheriff's sale.
Mrs. Lindley, the beloved mother of Mrs. H.M. Vaughan, wife of
the Prison Clerk, died on the morning of the 10th after a long
and painful illness. Chaplain Pickworth conducted a brief service
on Monday and at 6:45 P.M. the remains were taken to Newton for
burial. Mrs. Lindley had been a resident of Newton for many
years. Her age was 73 years. Her death is a sad loss to Clerk and
Mrs. Vaughan, with whom she had made her home since their
marriage.
