-Mrs. C.E. Clifford has left for Chicago, where she will spend a
couple of weeks, visiting her sister.
-The Elks installed their new officers, hereintofore named, last
night. The installing officer was Past Exalted Ruler W.P.
Hohenschuh. After the impressive formalities, informal social
features were the order of the hour, and the evening was devoted
to good fellowship.
-Marshal Scott Wilson is in receipt of a second communication
from Chief of Police Fred Kohler of Cleveland, who thanks the
Iowa City officer for his efforts in behalf of justice and
announces the capture of the alleged embezzler-fugitive, George.
F. Clewell.
-Mr. and Mrs. Ben Swisher rejoice over the coming of a daughter
to their home in Waterloo. The happy father is a son of Lovell
Swisher of the First National bank. He is now a rising young
attorney of Waterloo, and was recently elected city (school)
treasurer over one of the pioneer bankers of that city- the
evidence that popularity, as well as happiness, is "coming
his way."
-David W. Rich of Wayland, Iowa, a student of law, in S.U.I.
possesses a striking talent for clock making, carving, etc., and
an evidence thereof is now on display in Sunler's & Son's
show window. The clock is Alpine in suggestion, revealing a Swiss
hunters, trumpeters, and scenery folklore. The timepiece is
exquisitely carved, and altogether bespeaks remarkable talent on
the part of its creator.
