IN A LINE OR TWO
- Walter Rauscher writes the Times as follows: "I wish that you change
my address to Mayville, N.Y., and that you would send me the last two issues of
the Lockridge Times if it would not be too much bother. I am employed by the
U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in the control of the Japanese and Asiatic beetles in
western New York and will be here all summer."
- The Times has received a letter from Anthony Noyd giving his new address as
3213 Liberty Ave., Rockford, Ill. He is getting along fine and sends greetings
to all his old friends.
CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Mary Harbour celebrated her ninety-first birthday
anniversary Sunday, July 7, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Jones, of
Libertyville. There were two birthday cakes and following the custom of several
years, she was presented with a bouquet containing just ninety-one sprays. This
year the bouquet being of larkspur, one of her favorite garden flowers.
In connection with Mrs. Harbour's celebration, Mr. Jones was
also remembered with a cake, having celebrated his birthday on July 5.
Those present for this enjoyable occasion were: Mrs. Mary
Habour, J. Frank Smith of Hamilton, Mo., Mrs. Evelyn Bennett of Fairfield, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Jones, Mary Elizabeth and Riley of Libertyville and Mr. and
Mrs. John Boos of Lockridge.

ROUND PRAIRIE
- Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Litton spent Sunday in Mt. Pleasant at the parental
Spraker home.
- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Metcalf and sister, Mrs. Tom Litton spent Sunday afternoon
in Mt. Pleasant at the home of their sister, Mrs. Lucy Walker, who is very low
at this writing. Mrs. Metcalf stayed until Monday. [ Note: Mrs. Frank Metcalf
was Iantha Dorinda Smith Metcalf, Mrs. Tom Litton was Martha Alice Smith Litton
and their sister was Lucy Prudence Smith Watkins not Walker]
- A good crowd attended church services at the Baptist church Sunday evening.
There was special music furnished by the little daughters age 10 years and 4
years of Mr .and Mrs. Charles Holgate who have been visiting relatives in this
community. Mr. Holgate is a nephew of Mrs. Theodore Spray. The little girls are
gifted with a talent something unusual as they whistle the bird calls. They
don't move their lips to make the sound, it is all in their throat, but they
whistled several selections and were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Jay
Barton. At the close of the meeting they were given a nice little offering. They
left Monday morning for Ottumwa and will visit several towns on their way home
to Nebraska.
- Mrs. Lucy Walker passed away at her home in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday morning
after a long illness. Funeral arrangements have not been made as yet. [This is
the death of Lucy Prudence Smith Watkins, not Walker. She died 10 July 1929.]
- The Barton family held their annual reunion at the Chester Elliott home
Sunday, in the grove south of the house which was an ideal place. At the noon
hour the table was loaded with good eats which was served cafeteria style and
there were eighty-four present. Later in the afternoon they were served ice
cream and cake and all departed for their homes in the evening feeling the day
had been well spent together.
- Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and son, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Coe of Mt. Pleasant and
Gus Peterson spent Sunday at the home of the latter's daughter, Mrs. Alva
Tilford.
- Mrs. Arthur Spraker of Mt. Pleasant and son Emit and Mrs. Earnie Dunleavy of
New London spent Monday at the home of the latter's sister, Mrs. Arthur Litton.
PLEASANT HILL
- Dale McLain and Ewell York of Canton, Ill. spent the week-end at the home of
the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.O. McLain.
- Kenneth Sharpe is helping Rudolph Rauscher with his harvesting this week.
- Mrs. Arthur Peterson spent Friday in Fairfield having some dental work done.

- Bernard Jacobs is spending a few days at the home of his grandmother, Mrs.
Clara Jacobs near Salina.

- Mrs. Lawrence Allender spent Monday with her mother, Mrs. Jacob Smith.

ROUND PRAIRIE
- We have had lots of rain the past week which has delayed the cutting of oats
and is making the fields soft for those who haven't cut yet.
- Miss Eliza Billingsley was sewing for Mrs. Fred McElwee last Thursday.
- Mrs. and Mrs. Gregg Litton spent Monday afternoon at the home of her brother,
Arthur.
- Mrs. and Mrs. George Smith spent Sunday at the home of their sister, Mrs. Tom
Litton.
- Mrs. N.O. Elliott, Mrs. Chester Elliott, Mrs. Ella Barton, Mrs. Jay Barton and
mother, Mrs. Fred McElwee attended the funeral of Mrs. Lucy Walker in Mt.
Pleasant last Friday afternoon. [Note: Funeral was of Mrs. Lucy Prudence Smith
Watkins]
- Mrs. Agatha Blucher is spending the week at the home of her grandparents,
Mr.and Mrs. Henry Danielson of Lockridge.
- Mrs. Susie Wilson gave a picnic Sunday at the church in honor of the Primary
class which she is teacher by inviting the parents to bring well filled baskets
and wall who wanted to attend. It was threatening rain Sunday morning and did
rain most of the day, but there was a good crowd present. In the basement there
was a small table spread for the little class where all were seated together and
enjoyed the eats. In the afternoon they had eight gallon of ice cream and cake.
Rev. Cochran was present and they had a little meeting and decided to have the
Home Coming the 18th of August.
- Mrs. Fred McElwee and granddaughter Pauline spent Wednesday with Mrs. Arthur
Litton.
- Emery Crane sold hogs in Mt. Pleasant and were delivered by truck Monday.
- Miss Irene Hudson of near Salem spent the week-end at the home of her aunt,
Mrs. Ella Barton.
- Mrs. Belle Blucher, Mrs. Martha Bower and Ellen Blucher attended the funeral
of Mrs. Lusy Walker [sic- Watkins] in Mt. Pleasant last Friday.
PLEASANT HILL
- The Petersons held a family reunion at Perkin's Park in Burlington on Sunday.
Those attending from here were: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Peterson and son Darrell
and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Peterson and daughters of Madison, Wis.,
and Carl Peterson of Galesburg, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Peterson, Richard and Viola,
Mrs. Fred Peterson, Mr .and Mrs. Frank Murphy and Raymond Peterson.
- Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nelson very pleasantly entertained at dinner on Sunday at
their home the following friends and relatives: Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Leafgreen, Mr.
and Mrs. O. Deao, Edith, Edd, Archie and Violet Deao, Edd and Victor Johnson.
- Arthur Peterson cut oats for the Deao Bros. Tuesday evening.
- Mrs. H.A. Turner underwent a very serious operation at the Burlington hospital
on Thursday. She is getting along as well as can be expected.

- Lyzell Allender spent Saturday afternoon with his cousin, Glen Weenike.
- Joe Smith is assisting Jim Smith with his haying this week.
- Mrs. Earl Miles of Burlington spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will
Turner.
