Miss Susan Marie Shuppy was born October 8, 1852 and died
April 2d, 1929, being in her seventy-seventh year.
Her death was sudden, although she has not been in rugged
health for some time owing to her advanced age, and also an accident in which
she was injured a year or so ago. She was found dead in bed Tuesday morning when
her sister arose about 7 o'clock.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon from the
Trinity church, in charge of the Rev. Linder, with interment in Lockridge
cemetery.
MRS. GUS PETERSON DIES
Mrs. Gus Peterson passed away Tuesday morning at 1 o'clock
at her home six miles southeast of Lockridge, after being in ill health for the
past four years.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1:30
o'clock from the Round Prairie Baptist church in charge of Rev. J. A. Cochran.
Interment will be made in Lambert cemetery.
Mrs. Peterson was born sixty-three years ago in Jefferson
county. Her maiden name was Miss Jennie L. Workman.
She is survived by the following children: Mrs. George Smith
of Lockridge, Mrs. Cora Tilford of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Paul Hildebrand and
Mrs. Carl Coe of Lockridge. She also leaves nine grandchildren.

- Mr. and Mrs. Vern Vorhies are the parents of a 10 lb. son born Saturday.
- Lockridge contributed $18.75 toward the Salvation Army drive in Jefferson
county.
- Hubert and Lester Duttweiler of Canton, Illinois, spent Sunday at the parental
J.C. Duttwelier home.
- Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shank and daughter of Burlington spent Sunday at the
parental Fred Graff home.
- Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Vest are the parents of a daughter, Glenneva Maude, born
Friday night, March 29.
- At a meeting of the township trustees Monday, Ervie Anderson was selected the
tractor man for the township road work this summer.
- We acknowledge receipt of a post card from S.Q. Helfenstine, brother of J.C.
and an occasional visitor in Lockridge. He is now abroad, and dated his card and
Gibraltar, and mailed it in England.
- Dr. Graber had his medicine cases damaged this morning, and he thinks his loss
will be about $100. He left them sitting on the running board of his car and
started east on the pavement. They fell off just in time to get in front of
another car, and there wasn't much left.

ROUND PRAIRIE
- Mrs. Tom Litton and daughter Macil were Saturday afternoon callers at the home
of the former's sister, Mrs. A.U. Walker of Mt. Pleasant.
- Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lawrence spent last Wednesday evening in Rome at the home
of her father.
- Mr. George McElwee of Glasgow, Everett McElwee and Everett Crane left Sunday
morning for Chicago Heights where they expect to get work during the summer.
- D.S. Barton delivered some cattle at the Tom Litton home Wednesday morning.
PLEASANT HILL
- Clifford Lewis left Wednesday for Jackson, Mich., where he has employment.
- Mrs. Joe Nelson is recovering from a recent illness.
- Mrs. Dave Burkey is the first to have chickens hatched in this neighborhood.
- Two new scholars are enrolled at Pleasant Hill school, Maril Leafgreen and
Everette Craff.
IN A LINE OR TWO
- Chas. Pence left Monday morning for Quincy, Ill., to take treatments for
rheumatism.
- Mrs. Clarence Keller of Burlington visited the first of the week at the
parental Louis Duttweiler home.
- Mrs. Charlotte Gustafson of Seattle, Wash., is in Lockridge for a few days'
visit at the home of her brother, Albert Anderson.
- Mrs. Malcolm Nelson has been presented with a lovely potted plant from the New
Sweden Lutheran Aid, for which she is very grateful.
- Miss Clara Berg was taken to the hospital the first of the week with an attack
of appendicitis. Word from there today is that she was better and it is thought
an operation would not be necessary.
- Mrs. Mary Bogner was taken to the H.H. Berg home Tuesday suffering from high
blood pressure. She is reported some better today.
- "Tony" Carlson is now in charge of the Berg Store. It was closed the
first of the week for invoicing. Mrs. Carlson and the children are expected to
come next week, and the family will then live in the Johnson property in the
west part of town. We understand that Mr. Carlson will have an opening day some
time in the near future. See his adv. elsewhere on this page.

ROUND PRAIRIE
- Mrs. E.B. Litton spent Saturday at the home of her sister, Mrs. N.O.
Elliott.
- Mrs. Wright Church and family and mother, Mary Church, were entertained at the
J.L. Bower home Sunday.
- Mr. and Mrs. Ed Litton spent Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Ray
Watson.
- Miss Amy Barton, after a weeks stay at home, left Sunday for the Chrisinger
home near Winfield.
- Mrs. Maude Davis and daughter Vesta and husband, pleasantly surprised her
mother, Mrs. Walter Stewart, Saturday by driving from near Memphis, Mo., and
spent the night with them. On their way home Sunday, they called a short time at
the home of her sister, Mrs. Minnie Bower.
- Mrs. Tom [Martha Alice Smith] Litton received word from her sister, Mrs. A.U.
Walker * of Mt. Pleasant that she wasn't so well Tuesday. [Should probably read
Mrs. A.D. Watkins, Lucy Prudence Smith, wife of Alfred Douglas Watkins.]
- Mrs. Jay Barton entertained the Thursday Club at her home last Thursday
afternoon. Most all the club members and two visitors were present. After the
business meeting they were served refreshments of fruit salad, nut cake and
chocolate angel food.
- Mrs. Arthur Sparker of Mt. Pleasant spent the week-end at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Arthur Litton.
