BIRMINGHAM [Van Buren Co.]
From the Enterprise:- Mrs. Nettie West and baby left last week for Idaho....Willard Wilson and family, of Nebraska, have arrived in Birmingham and will make this their home...Mr. and Mrs. Salladay of Braidwood, Ills. are visiting at J.C. Akers'...Cary Moore, who has been attending school at Parsons college is spending his vacation at home...Cannie Hurt, from Tennessee, is visiting his mother...Hulda Kerr is home form the deaf and dumb institute at Council Bluffs...Mrs. Albert Moss and children have returned from Lincoln, Neb...Mont. Huffman has gone to the western part of the state to look up a location...Capt. J.A. T. Hull, of Des Moines and Hon. J.S. Woolson of Mt. Pleasant, are to be the orators here on the Fourth of July....J.H. Tarbott will soon commence the erection of a large house on his farm north of town...O.H. Johns is enlarging his storeroom...The board of supervisors have contracted with a bridge company for a new 1200 ton bridge over Chequest creek, at Ellis' crossing, in Chequest township.

SALEM. [Henry Co.]
     From the News- Prof. Morgan and family will spend the summer in Indiana...Miss Etta Triplett is visiting in Illinois...Miss Birdie Townsend is visiting in St. Louis...Miss Allie and Clara Cooper will leave this week for Nebraska to visit friends...Lester Bailey was kicked in the side by a horse last week and seriously injured...The barn of M.F. Crew was struck by lightning week before last and two horses and sheep were killed. All his grain and wool were destroyed also...Misses Vic. and Max Nona started this week for Washington county, Pa., where they will spend the summer with their grandfather...Mrs. Wm. Kittle has returned from Illinois.

RICHLAND [ Keokuk Co.]
     From the Clarion:- Mr. C. Nordyke, of Nebraska, is visiting in Richland...Mrs. Doll Symons of Des Moines, is visiting in this city...Hon. J.B. McCoy, of Fairfield, will deliver the 4th of July address in Richland...Isaac Hadley had his arm badly dislocated by a horse falling and throwing him off...Lorain Tracy and his sister, Ollie, deaf mutes, have returned home from Council Bluffs, Lorain having graduated...Frank Ingold, a former resident of Richland, now of Luray, Mo. was in the city last week...A cyclone struck Ollie last week and made things lively for a few minutes. Dent Shook, living in that town, had a barn badly riddled.

ELDON [Wapello Co.]
     From the Review:- Mat Burgess has returned from his trip east...Mrs. W.T. Danner of Burlington is visiting Mrs. U.P. Rogers...Frank and Maggie Phillips are visiting in Muscatine...The Soap creek bridge will be 120 feet long, with iron piers, and will cost about $5,000...J.O. Hunnell has returned from his western trip...The Congregational church will retain Rev. Brooks as pastor for another year...Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Mix, daughter and two sons left Thursday of last week for an extended eastern trip. Mr. Mix will attend the G.A.R. encampment at Portland, Me. during his absence. Miss Kitty, we are informed, will remain in Boston, Mass. for an indefinite length of time...Conductor Muncey and Thos. Dial started June 18th for Portland, Me. to attend the G.A.R. encampment...Trainmaster White and wife left last Thursday week for an extended western trip. They will visit California, Oregon and New Mexico while gone and will be absent about six weeks.

OBITUARY
     Elizabeth Steward was born in Montgomery county, Maryland the 26th day of September, 1796 and was married to Richard Stewart, January 29, 1821, died December 30, 1881, aged 88 years, 3 months and 5 days.
     Mother has gone to her reward; she has gone to meet the Lord, whom she had been serving for over fifty years. Mother was old and full of years. She was like a ripe shock of grain ready to be gathered into the garner of the Lord. How we miss mother. But we bow in humble
