Cottonville Cemetery to be Given Thorough Clean-Up
Since our visit to the cemetery at Cottonville last summer, we
have devoted frequent space in these columns in picturing the
condition of the plot of ground which forms the last resting
place of more than thirty of our soldier dead as well as many of
the county's earliest settlers. At a meeting of the American
Legion boys at Andrew the other evening, this matter was taken up
and an association formed to carry out the work of clearing this
sacred ground of jungle undergrowth which for years has been
allowed to flourish there.
One day has been set apart for this clean-up program, Sunday
forenoon May 20th, 1928, and every person interested as well as
members of the Legion and other patriotic bodies should be glad
to do their bit in honoring our soldier dead who lie buried in
that unkempt silent city. If it is impossible to wield and ax,
shovel, spade, rake or fork, hand a little donation to the
commander of the Legion post nearest you, for there is
always an expense connected with a campaign of this nature and
magnitude. We want to commend the good people of the Cottonville
community who are eager to assist in this work, and our
congratulations go out to the Legion boys who will supervise the
undertaking. Just remember the date, May 20th.
