ACQUITTED OF BIGAMY
John McMillin was arrested in Cedar Rapids on a charge of bigamy,
he being at the same time the husband of Beulah Bodkin of
Maquoketa and Clara Bloomquist. After a trial he was acquitted of
bigamy for the reason that his marriage to Beulah Bodkin was
declared invalid. McMillin was a minor at the time of the first
marriage and did not have the consent of one parent. Clara
Bloomquist obtained a divorce immediately and McMillin will serve
a term in the workhouse for the crime of perjury. It is indeed
too bad that the scoundrel could not have received the benefit of
a long term in jail.
