Safe Cracked in Otter Creek
About midnight Wednesday last, three men entered the store of
Flannery Bros., at Otter Creek, seized Martin Doyle, the clerk
who was sleeping in the store and bound and gagged him. They they
proceeded to blow open the safe and took the very few dollars
that it happened to contain. They also rummaged the show cases
and scoured a number of pearl handled pocket knives, several
revolvers and other articles and departed. When the proprietors
opened the store in the morning they found poor Doyle in a
helpless and frightened condition as the burglars had left him.
Sheriff Shrigley was notified of the affair and a description
given of the men. He wired Sheriff McCann of Dubuque, but no
arrests have yet been made.
