PERSONAL.
The Bradgate schools opened Monday morning and the
children were on hand at the tap of the bell. Just preliminary
work of arranging classes and books for the course of study and
school was dismissed.
Grandma McGees two grandchildren, who have spent about a
week with her, returned to their home at Worthington, Minn.,
Tuesday. Ben McGee motored them as far as Livermore, enroute to
their home.
Alice Taylor of Chicago, who has been a guest of Miss Susie Dean,
left for Chicago Monday. After a few days at her home in that
city, she will go to her position as head of the Voice Department
in Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Hanson of Linn Grove were last Friday and
Saturday visitors at the Thos. Sawyer home. Mr. Hanson is a
nephew of Mrs. Sawyer and Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were visiting
relatives in Illinois at the same time as the Sawyers as they
were on their honeymoon trip.
Frank S. Dunker returned to his home from Columbus, Ohio,
Saturday. He was attending the H. C. Godman Shoe Convention. In
addition to northwest Iowa, Mr. Dunker will also have the state
of South Dakota as his territory. The family will continue to
reside here.
Duane Wilcox, who has been employed for some time past on the
Merrill Martin farm north of Dakota City, resigned Saturday and
left for his home northwest of Humboldt, where he will work on
his fathers farm. Floyd Smith of Humboldt took Duanes
place on the Merrill Martin farm and commenced his duties Monday.
The Thos. Sawyer family returned home last Wednesday from various
points in Illinois, where they have been visiting relatives. On
their return trip, they stopped at Des Moines where they were
joined by Mrs. Mel Strom and son of Storm Lake, who had been
visiting there, to Humboldt, where they spent a few days and
attended the fair.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS.
Hans C. Leeds and Andy Christensen returned home
Saturday from Des Moines where they had been spending ten days as
gate keepers at the State Fair. They left again Wednesday, Sept.
7th for the big fair at Fonda, where they will again act as gate
keepers.
Miss Charlotte McNelly of Hanlontown, who visited her
grandmother, Mrs. Mary Myers, for the past ten days returned home
Sunday. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McNelly motored to West
Bend to see the Grotto enroute to their home.
Dale Morgan, of Fort Dodge, was a caller on Humboldt friends last
Thursday and took in the county fair. He spent most of the summer
at the Y.M.C.A. camp, where he was steward. He will go to Iowa
City this fall to enter college and take a course in mechanical
engineering.
Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Hanson of Linn Grove were Friday and Saturday
visitors at the Thos. Sawyer home. They were just recently
married and have been enjoying their honeymoon trip with
relatives at various points in Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were
former school mates and Mr. Hanson is a nephew of Mrs. Sawyer.
Mr. and Mrs. George Reeves and M. H. Folk have moved into the
residence purchased of Jim Lyle, and the Wm. Vonderhaar family
have moved from the Mary Naugle residence in southeast Humboldt
into the residence vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Reeves. Mrs. Mary
Naugle moved from her residence in southwest Humboldt into her
home, vacated by the Vonderhaars.
Mrs. Russell Phinney and children of Council Bluffs were last
week visitors at the parental, L. E. Jones home, near Gilmore
City. They stopped at Gilmore City enroute, where they were
called by the death of Mr. Phinneys sister. Mrs. Phinney
and children and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Jones, attended
the fair on last Wednesday. The former returned to their home
last Friday.

DAKOTA CITY NEWS.
Mrs. Herman Kunert has been on the sick list but is
somewhat improved at the present time.
Mrs. Harry Locke, John Koob and Mr. A. A. Hook were in Fort Dodge
on business, Saturday.
Elwyn Fairman of Humboldt and Mr. and Mrs. K. C. Will were in
Fort Dodge on business Saturday.
Mrs. Glenn Rowell of Des Moines arrived this week for a visit at
the parental Thomas Sawyer home.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sawyer and family spent Sunday with her
brother, Ed. Bergeson, and sister, Mrs. Will Nelson, at Swea
City.
Herman Himelman of Ocheydan, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hiennen and
family took dinner at the Will Knieriem home.
Mrs. Clara Rice arrived Saturday from Iowa City to take up her
apartment at the Will Koppe home with her niece, Miss Alice
Stoughton.
Roy Gifford, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Graham of Britt, Mr. and Mrs. C.
D. Gifford and baby left Saturday for Richland, Mo., and returned
Tuesday evening.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS.
S. S. Johnson and son Russell of Rutland and Mr. and
Mrs. Lawrence Braby and daughter, Virginia, motored to Riceville,
Ia., last Wednesday, and spent the day.
Kenneth Haviland, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Haviland, residing
southwest of town, is attending high school and staying at the
home of his grandmother, Mrs. C. Verbrugge.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hokel and family left Wednesday morning
enroute to Huxley, where they will attend the wedding of a
cousin. Little Bernel Hokel will be flower girl in the wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Adams who were called to New York City by the
death of a daughter-in-law, returned home last week Wednesday
after spending several weeks in the home of their son, A. M.
Adams.
Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mitchell and son of Superior, Wis., spent the
first of last week at the home of Mrs. Deliah Rapple and at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pavey at Rutland. Mrs. Mitchell is a
niece of Mr. Pavey.
Mr. and Mrs. Darol Constable and the formers brother, O.
Constable and wife and baby of Fort Dodge, called Saturday
evening to see Mrs. Anna Gangstead, who was injured during the
fair and who is under the doctors care.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Sawyer and son, Donald, were Sunday visitors
at the home of Mrs. Sawyers brother, Ed Bergeson, and with
her sister, Mrs. W. O. Nelson at Swea City.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Richards and daughter, Enid, of Fairbanks,
Ia., spent a few days last week at the John Johnson home. Mrs.
Richards and Mrs. Johnson are sisters.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Scarborough and Herb Nelsons daughter,
Iris, are enjoying a motor trip in eastern Iowa and Wisconsin.
They are expected to return the last of the week.
Mrs. Claire Woodard-Genung, who is music instructor in the Iowa
Falls schools, will be home Friday evening for a week and visit
at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Sadie Gardiner.
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Ellsworth and family were Eagle Grove callers
Sunday evening where they attended a concert given by the
Methodist choir in the Chicago Northwestern Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Poll of Livermore are now occupying the Mrs. John
Hart residence in Dakota City, which was vacated a short time ago
by the Walt Sample family, who moved to Livermore.
