Looking Back

25 Years ago This Week:

Woods Brothers of Denova started work of delivering 10,000 ties and several thousand fence post to the railroad.

51 new members were taken into the Congregational church during revival meetings.

Hogs had risen to $4.40.

Twenty Years Ago This Week:

An old fashioned blizzard covered the ground with four inches of snow and made big drifts. This was the first real snowfall of the winter.

Rural routes were soon to start from Hillsboro and Stockport.

Ten Years Ago This Week:

A booster club was organized the meeting being called to order by Mayor Banta. The main subject discussed was the installation of electric lights, Oakland being the source considered. The question of better train service was also taken up.

I. O. Powers, bought the N. M. Hockett Store.  Fred Shelledy sold his store, the stock being divided between Lamm and Powers.

The supposedly big catfish found at Oakland was discovered to be merely an old log.
