ACCIDENT AT NEW LONDON
New London, Ia., Dec. 29-(Correspondence)-Ned ROACH, of the firm of CODNER &
ROACH, was unfortunate today in having his leg broken near the ankle, and
the bone shattered, by a horse falling on him. He was driving a cow near his
home south of town and ice had gathered on the horse's feet, causing him to
slip and fall. About a year ago Mr. ROACH was similarly injured in the clay
pit at MAYER's tile factory.

A VEGA WEDDING
Vega, Dec. 30 (Correspondence)-Mr. Frank M Smith and Miss Ella M. Johnson,
were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents near Vega, Dec.
29. At 6 p.m. the bride and groom took their places, attended by Mr. C.W.
Hutchinson as best man, and Miss Hannah Nelson as bridesmaid. Rev. J. Lee
after a brief ceremony pronounced them husband and wife. Miss Mattie Smith
played on the organ while Mrs. Jennie Johnson sang "Beneath the Low
Thatched
Roof." The bride was dressed in cream colored gloria silk, trimmed in blue
and white slippers, the groom in black.
The presents were numerous and valuable, consisting of most articles needed
in housekeeping, from a clock to a butter knife. About sixty guests united
in congratulations and dined at the well prepared wedding feast. All decided
that Mr. and Mrs. Johnson knew what good things were required for such an
occasion. After the feast some time was passed in singing and instrumental
music.
The next day the parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Smith,
entertained
at dinner quite a number of invited guests.
The happy young couple will go to housekeeping at once in a new residence
near the home of the father of the groom, where the family has resided for
many years while their many friends predict for them a prosperous future

The general health of our neighborhood is good.....Mrs. Rodalie VAN WINKLE
has been quite ill, but is slowly mending.....Mr and Mrs. John T MESSER
entertained their children and grandchildren to the number of twenty-five,
at a Christmas dinner last Saturday. The roast turkey looked very inviting,
together with pies,cakes, apples and peaches and other good things, made a
bounteous feast. They had a tree for the children with old Santa to
distribute the presents. Each and all enjoyed a good time.....Our schools
have closed for a week's vacation.....A few of the young people were
entertained at an oyster supper last Saturday night at the home of Miss
Azuba MESSER...Our Sunday school gave Christmas exercises at the church last
Sunday.
