PERSONALS.
~~Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Howe returned this week from a four week's visit to
Kansas.~~S.F. Harvey went to Minnesota Tues. for a ten day's trip.~~Mr. E.L.
Stowe, General Agent of W.J. Holland & Co., Publishers, Springfield Mass.,
was among our callers, Tuesday.~~Mr. and Mrs. John J. Cole, of Saint Louis,
are in town, the guests of Rev. Wm. R. Cole.~~Mr. and Mrs. Marshall, of
Little Rock, Arkansas, are in town, the guests of Dr. Pyle.~~Rev. D.S.
Tappan will preach a sermon to young men at the Presbyterian Church next
Sunday evening.~~Mr. and Mrs. Horace Stickney, of Port Allen, were in town a
few days this week, the guests of D.D.W.C. Throop.~~Miss Mollie Lahrman we
are glad to learn, has re-entered the college this term. The lady's musical
talent and ability received a handsome compliment by her appointment of
teacher of music in the German college.~~Hon. D.N. Sprague, our popular
District Attorney was in Mt. Pleasant Tuesday and made us a pleasant call.
He will make no personal canvass of the district, being too busily occupied
in the discharge of his official duties, but will endeavor to see a few of
his friends in the different localities between this and election. We do not
think there is any doubt of his election.

BUFFINGTON-ASHFORD~~On the 1st inst., at the Harlan House by Rev. D.S.
Tappan, Mr. Samuel Buffington and Miss Susan E. Bashford both of Louisa
County, Iowa.
COOPER-AINSWORTH~~On Monday the 7th inst., at the residence of the bride's
father, in this city, by Rev. I.P. Teter, Mr. George F. Cooper of Humeston,
Wayne County, Iowa and Miss Marion E. Ainsworth of this city.
STICKNEY-CARPENTER~~On Sunday last, Mr. Horace Stickney and Miss Myra
Carpenter, both of Port Allen, Iowa.
BOONE-COLE~~On Wednesday evening, 9th instant, at the residence of the
bride's father in this city, by Rev. Wm. R. Cole, Mr. E.O. Boone, of
Galesburg, Ill., Miss Anna E. Cole, of this city.
DIED.
At Oak Grove, Sept. 1st, Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of the Rev. Mr.
Roland, aged twenty-two years.
