ROUNDY FAMILY REUNION
A notable family reunion was held at the home of Mrs. William Fouts, of Grove Township, Wednesday, September 30, 1914, when one hundred persons partook of the festivities of the occasion, all the descendants of Washington Roundy, a pioneer of this section, their wives and husbands.
All the sons and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Washington Roundy were present, and our informant said. It is the first time they had all sat down at a meal together, as sone of the older children had left home before the younger ones were born. There are eight sisters and four brothers, named as follows:
Mrs. Polly Ann McColl, of Arizona
Mrs. Ella Adamson, Los Angeles, California
Mrs. Sarah J. Adamson, Dunlap
Mrs. Adeline Major, Dunlap
Mrs. Julia Ett Fouts, Dunlap
Mrs. Rena Orilla Sharp, Dunlap
Mrs. Francis Alvira Vandermark, Dunlap
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Fouts, Dunlap
Newton Jasper Roundy, Woodbine
John Washington Roundy, Dunlap
Adelbert Uriah Roundy, Valentine, Nebraska.
All of them were born in Shelby County except Newton Jasper, who was born in Illinois. They are all in excellent health, considering their ages, the eldest being 64, and the youngest 39. Their combined weight is 2220 pounds. They are very fortunate, inasmuch as there has not been a death in this family. It is doubtful if another as robust family can be found in the state. They have fifty-one children, and these too, are pretty husky specimens of the human race.
It is needless to say that under such favorable circumstances, it was a merry crowd, and they partook of the bountiful dinner prepared by Mrs. Fouts and her able assistants with unusual zest.
After they had partaken of the meal, they had their pictures taken in a group, and it was not necessary then for the photographer to tell them to look pleasant.
Besides the home folks there were present from away, the following: Mr. and Mrs. N.J. Roundy, of Woodbine, Mrs. P.A. McColl, of Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. D. Adamson, of Los Angeles, California, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Roundy and two daughters, Reta and Vira, of Valentine, Nebraska. Previously, at the W.A. Majors home, a reunion of about thirty-seven of these relatives was held, but at that time they had not all arrives.
