Mrs. Watters
The death of Mrs. Watters occurred Wednesday morning last. In the
issue of a week ago the names of the children who had been called
home were given. Mrs. Watters' death was peaceful; it was like
unto the extinction of a candle, slow, yet she retained
consciousness until the end, or as long as there remained a
substance whereon the flame of life might feed. Funeral services
were conducted by Rev. Smith from the family home, on Friday
afternoon. Mrs. Sarah J. Watters was born April 18, 1930, in
Giles county, Virginia;
she removed to Indiana with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson,
when a mere child and in 1950 was married to John M. Pierce. By
this union seven daughters were born: Mrs. W. Sawyer, Guide Rock,
Neb.,; Mrs. M.M. Meyers, Ackley; Mrs. C. A. Barnes, Harris, Iowa;
Mrs. A. Richardson, deceased; Mrs. J.D. Andrews, Lincoln, Neb.;
Mrs V. Richardson, Doon, Iowa; Mrs. J.A. Rutledge, North Branch,
Michigan. In 1855 removed to Ackley and Mr. Pierce died in 1865.
In 1867 she was married to Robert H. Watters, who died in 1898;
to this union two children were born, Fred and Pearl, of this
city. She was a kind, loving mother and devoted christian, and
will be greatly missed by sorrowing relatives and a large circle
of friends.
