George Bailey is building a new house on the O.W. Bailey farm
northeast of town, which he will occupy as soon as finished. By
this arrangement the O.W. Bailey family will remain in their
present home instead of moving to Alden as they previously
intended.
A new tennis club was organized Monday evening, with G. D.
Elliott president and W.R. Spencer secretary and treasurer. The
members of this club have just constructed the new ground north
of the old court and are getting themselves in readiness for
anything that comes their way.
The John Welscko home was more serioulsy damaged by lighting
during the recent storm than at first reported. The stovepipe was
thrown all around the room by the decending bolt, which
afterwards struck the floor and wrecked it badly Nobody was hurt.
N. B. Newton, after having been in poor health for several months
quietly passed away at 7 o'clock Sunday morning leaving an aged
wife to cherish, for a few months or years, the memories of
happier days. The deceased was born in Homer, New York, January
1, 1820 and has consequently passed his seventy-eighth birthday
by eight months and two days. A peacefull, law-abiding neighbor
whose modest aspirations reached only a litte distance and whose
wants were few in comparison to those of many people, and easily
supplied, has gone from our midst, the alloted span of
"three -score and ten" being more than filled. On
behalf of the widow we are requested to thank neighbors and
friends who assisted her in her hour of deep sorrow.
