Mrs Cliassel of Iowa Falls delivered a sermon at the Methodist
church Sunday morning and also gave a lecture there in the
evening. Both addresses were well received by the audiences that
attended.
H. W. Blashfield of Homer, New York, arrived in Alden last week
to visit his daughter, Mrs. W. W. Fisk and his sister, Mrs. Sarah
Rogers. This is his first visit to our part of the great west and
he likes the appearance of the
country very well.
Geo. Orpin is breaking the record as a landscape gardner in
grading up and turning the Attwoll premises around the new
building. We have nobody in these parts who knows what to do and
how to do it along these lines as well as Mr. Orpin.
On Wednesday, September 29 Fred Robinson and Kate Newton Frye
were married and are now living at Mr. Robinsons place north-west
of town. The bride and groom were in town Wednesday evening
apprising their friends of their new found happiness.
On Tuesday deputy sheriff Wharton, from Bancroft, Iowa, came down
with a warrant, for the arrest of John Langanki, charged with
obtaining money by false pretenses. Mr. Langanki got his friends
to sign notes with him and so adjusted the matter.
K. Olson is just now busily engaged taking care of his crop of
sorghum. He planted about six acres last spring and expects to
make about 900 gallons of first class molasses. This will bring
him in about $300.00 or sixty dollars per acre from his ground.
Of course that is not all clear gain for there is a vast amount
of work connected with the proper making of molasses but still it
beats raising oats and selling them at 15 or 18 cents a bushel.
