Death of Mrs. Redfern
Friday Mrs. Redfern died at her home in Jackson Twp. where she
had lived since 1852. Jane Hougham was born in Indiana September
17, 1825. She was married to William Redfern in 1844. In 1848
they moved to Polk County and in 1852 to Jackson Twp. Guthrie
County where Mr. Redfern entered the land of the government which
has been their home ever since. They had seven children, four of
whom are living. Mr. Redfern died ten years ago. Mrs. Redfern was
a sister to Aaron Hougham of this place. For almost a half
century Mrs. Redfern has been a resident of Jackson Twp. In that
time she and her husband have been identified with the
development of the country and she has seen the wilderness of
forest and prairie become a prosperous and thickly settled
community and the old log cabin give place to the more
comfortable home of today. There is still standing on the home
farm, the log cabin built in 1852 in which she and her husband
first made their home.
The funeral was held at the house Sunday, Rev. Robert Lewis of
Linden preached the sermon. The remains were buried at Morrisburg
cemetery.
