Died. February 1st, 1894, at her son's home in Adams Twp., Mrs. Martha Hooks, wife of Elder W.F. Hooks, aged 53 years, 8 months, and 15 days. Mrs. Hooks was stricken with heart disease about three weeks previous to her death, but recovered sufficiently to visit her son, who lives but a short distance from her home. It was there that the "death angel" called her home while she was sitting in her chair knitting. She was born April 21, 1840 in Indiana, moved with her parents (Aaron and Mary Hougham) to Iowa in 1850, since which time she has been a resident of this state. She was married in 1867 to W.F. Hooks and passed most of her married life in Adams Township. She leaves a husband, son and daughter to mourn her loss, as she was an affectionate wife and loving mother. The number of her friends equaled her acquaintances and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was a firm believer in religion and joined the Panther Creek Baptist church in 1871. Her life proved her faith in her religion. The deceased was a sister to Mr. Aaron Hougham of Panora.
