Isabelle Martha Campbell was born in Marion County IN, January
22, 1830. She removed with her parents to Guthrie County IA in
1853 and in December of that same year was married to Richard
Gilbert. Their married life passed over a period of nearly thirty
seven years made up of care, love and duty to their children.
Mrs. Gilbert was ever a loving and dutiful companion to one of
the kindest and best of husbands. She was converted to
Christianity in her 16th year and united with the Eagle Creek
Baptist church, but upon learning the fact that this was an
anti-mission church and she being a believer in the Savior's
commission "Go ye unto all the world and preach the gospel
to every creature", etc. She then united with the West Union
Missionary Baptist church. She was one in the organization of the
Panora Baptist church and also one in the organization of Freedom
church and was still a member of it until her death Friday
afternoon November 28th 1890. She lived a consistent Christian
life and felt motivated to trust in her Savior during her long
and trying illness. The funeral services were held at the home,
where many came to pay their last token of loving regard. Her
body was placed in the cemetery east of Panora to await the final
day when we shall all be brought to judgement. We bespeak for the
family the sympathy of all.
