A Sorely Afflicted Home
One of the saddest deaths we have been called upon to record for
many months is that of one of Panora's best, brightest and purest
daughters, Miss Hattie Campbell, only daughter of C.M. and
Pricilla Campbell, whose serious illness we have heretofore
referred to, and which culminated fatally yesterday morning at 2
o'clock. Miss Campbell was taken with inflammation of the bowels
about May 20th, and from which she suffered untold agony, making
it necessary to keep her under the influence of opiate most of
the time. She was entirely unconscious during the last 48 hours
of her life. It is with sadness that we chronicle the death of
Miss Campbell, cut down by the grim reaper of death just as she
was ripening into womanhood - her age being 23 years. Though her
death was not unexpected, it causes a deep and lasting sorrow
among our people by whom she was universally beloved and esteemed
for her many virtuous and kind heartedness. A true and devoted
Christian, an energetic temperance worker, a fine scholar, an
excellent teacher, she will be missed from the society of all.
Her remains were followed to their final resting place in the
West Cemetery at 10 o'clock today by a large concourse of
sympathizing friends, including her school, to whom she was
devotedly attached.
