John W. Singleton
John W. Singleton was born near Hamburg, Iowa, October 25, 1842.
He lived until married on the place near Walnut Creek, called
Singleton Grove. He was married in 1867 to Fannie Good, who lived
near Glenwood. They moved to Odell, Nebraska, in 1887, then later
to University Place in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he died November
30, 1926. Those who survive him are his wife, one sister in
California, four daughters, Mrs. E. T. Jay of Lincoln, Mrs. P. B.
Laird of Tabor, Mrs. T. H. Ellis of Ocean Park, California, and
Mrs. Eleanor Beba of Oakland, California, and one son J. W.
Singleton of Fairbury, Nebraska. Mrs. Singleton came to Tabor
December 6, and will spend some weeks with Mrs. P. B. Laird and
then will live with her son at Fairbury. All were present at the
funeral except the daughters in California.
Niece Dies in Ohio
I. B. Adams received word Friday morning that his niece, Miss
Dama Ripley, had died at Portage Lake, Ohio. MIss Ripley was 46
years and 9 months old and her death was the result of a nervous
breakdown. She was born in this county, in the Walnut creek
vicinity and lived in Shenandoah the major part of her life,
having moved to Ohio only three years ago. The body was brought
to Shenandoah for burial. The funeral was held at the Methodist
church in Shenandoah Sunday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the
pastor of that church. Those who attended from Sidney were Mr.
and Mrs. I. B. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. John Adams, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Judd.
