Olive Paddock
Mrs. Olive Paddock
was born in Kansas eighty seven years ago. Her parents, Dr. and
Mrs. Ira D. Blanchard were missionaries to the Indians at the
time of her birth. Later, when the subject of this sketch was
eight years old, that was in 1846, the family came to Fremont
County, homesteading west of Percival, on the farm now owned by
Alex Bebout and family. In early womanhood, she was united in
marriage to James Paddock. Two sons,
Arthur and Pearl, both of Omaha are the only ___?__ the children
surviving. Alfretta, the only girl died in childhood; Truman when
about thirty; Clarence when a man with a family and Ira passed
away just a few years ago. The Paddocks went to housekeeping on
the farm still owned by them northwest of
Percival and spent all life together there. Mr. Paddock passed
away some years ago, then the wife went to the home of her son,
Ira in Nebraska City, keeping house for him after his wife's
death and raising his two motherless children. Esther, who is now
Mrs. Marvin Gruber of Nebraska City and Glenn Paddock of Council
Bluffs. After the death of the son Ira, a couple of years ago,
Mrs. Paddock went to Omaha where she was tenderly carred for by
her two sons, Arthur and Pearl. Death was due mostly to her
extreme age, although she had been failing for some time. The
body was brought to Percival Wednesday morning and services held
at the Baptist church of which she was a life long member. Mrs.
Carlyon had charge of the services. Burial was made in the
Blanchard cemetery, on land given by her father for that purpose,
beside her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Johnson, who died many
years ago, and Mrs. McKinney Lambert, who died in Wyoming and was
brought here for burial three years ago. Mrs. Riley McAlexander
and Orman Paddock, grandchildren and their mother, are the only
relatives in our community. A splendid woman has gone to her
reward, what wonderful changes she saw take place in the long
life allotted her.
