If you want to learn a lot about people, just move on the
Waubonsie Trail and live there a few years and your faith will be
shaken and your patience tried, when in the cold night about
midnight, or when on a dark rainy night when you are sleeping
peacefully, someone comes and raps on the front door and says
"Say, mister, we are out of gas, could we get a couple of
gallons, or we have had a puncture and would like to have it
fixed as they were going home from Omaha and had some lady friend
with us." After you are nearly frozen they will tell you
they have spent all their money, but will make it right the next
time they see you, and they never see you again. One likes to
help people in trouble and it is not the money but the principle
some have. But there are lots of honest people who appreciate a
favor.
